The sling is about good with some age cracking and moderate wear. The stock is also excellent with some scattered minor dents and dings. The remaining surfaces remain bright with a very small amount of discoloration on the buttplate. 98% of the original blue finish remains with some minor wear on the muzzle and some light scratches on the trigger guard. Complete with a leather sling and an original bright iron cleaning rod.Ĭondition: Excellent.

Most components are marked with the matching full or partial serial number. The marking disc on right side of buttstock is blank. Inverted "V" front sight and early "Lange Vizier" or "roller coaster" rear sight graduated on the sides from 4 to 20. The forend cap, barrel band springs, receiver, bolt assembly, stock disc and buttplate are bright, the remaining parts blue. The bolt handle and floor plate hardware are marked with crown proofs. H N", the left rear of the barrel and receiver are marked with the matching serial numbers, as well as two crown proofs on the receiver. The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "BLG. The top of the receiver ring is marked with the three line Mauser/ Oberndorf markings over "1917" and the sidewall is marked "GEW 98". These ranges were used for competitive shooting. The asterisk marks on the sight base are the range markings for 100, 175 and 300 meters. This is the economy version with the modified Gewehr rear roller coaster sight. This is a very nice example of a German Gewehr 98 Mauser rifle that has been converted to shoot 8.15x46R ammunition, by modifying the bolt face, extractor and rear of the barrel.
